Another weekend of amazing flowers!

First up... unique bouquet of roses, hypericum, artichokes and protea. Stunning.
The bridal bouquet is an artistic blend in an asymmetrical arrangement. Lisianthus, roses, orchids, freesia, mini calla lilies, hosta leaves and wire vine. Gorgeous!
Another bridal bouquet of roses and mini Picasso calla lilies. Crystals on the roses add a bit of bling!
Love this fun arrangement of green hydrangea, lisianthus, roses and delphinium. Add a few ostrich feathers and... voila!... a fabulous bouquet!

The bride carried a larger version of her maids, with hot pink gerbs, dark purple carnations and green button poms - super cute!
Romance! Hydrangea, peach hypericum and champagne roses make for a simple and elegant (not to mention gorgeous) bouquet. So pretty!

You can't get more classic than ivory roses for the bride.

Some proms with about 100 corsages!!! More on that in a minute, but first, the lovely natural bouquets that the bride and one of her maids will be carrying tomorrow.

The maid has heavenly scented garden roses with eggplant mini calla lilies.

And for the bride... the same garden roses and callas with hydrangea and hypericum berries. Pittosporum ties it all together. Lovely!

What is not to love about a beautiful April weekend - perfect for a wedding. These gorgeous flowers were the icing on the cake.

The six bridesmaids got to carry bouquets of green and blue hydrangea, white english garden roses and seeded eucalyptus.

The bride - a stunning combination of garden roses and pink roses, seeded eucalyptus and berries.

Can't wait to see photos of how amazing The Lodge must have looked with these splendid centerpieces of roses, hydrangea and grapevine. The birch containers = perfection.

Last week's weddings were full of unique and interesting details and flowers. In a summer dominated by roses and hydrangea the week featured flowers that we haven't used much lately; gardenias, nigella, star of bethlehem, heather, phalaenopsis orchids as well as some interesting greens including mint. Roses and hydrangea were also in abundance - always a favorite!

Perhaps the most unique part about our busy week was this beautiful hand made bouquet cuff by our very own Kelly. Gorgeous, isn't it??! I told her she needs to sell these on Etsy.

Yesterday was a GORGEOUS day to be married in CNY. Hope our brides and grooms had very special days.

One weddings was green and white (with navy blue dresses, how sharp!). Roses, hypericum berries and hydrangea... love it.

Our other wedding was lavender and white. Simple nosegay of roses.
Simple with a touch of bling in between the roses.

A few bouquets from last week.
Natural, romantic and handpicked was the name of the game.
Check out this lush and gorgeous bouqet - hydrangea, cabbage roses, berries, stephanotis ( not individual blooms, but rather clusters on their stems that were cut from a plant), dusty miller, calcynia. Truly spectacular in person, the photo doesn't do it justice!

And romantic for the maids in pink cabbage roses, hydrangea, berries and calcynia.

Make it"look like it was handpicked from the garden" were the instructions for this blue bouquet. It was so very gardeny and natural. Loved it!

In the midst of the wedding season

It's hard to believe we've wrapped up June - time sure does fly! Here are some bouquets from the past couple of weeks.

Classic white bridal bouquet with roses and seasonal peonies (sure do wish they were readily available year round!)

Many bride opt to have their bouquet embellished. Often it is with rhinestones or a broach. What a beautiful touch to have a cross or rosary wrapped in the bouquet.
Lovely hydrangea and roses mix together for a wonderful bouquet.

This bride's bouquet has a photo of her grandparents on the stems!

Here is a fabulous litte combination - pink hydrangea, peonies, roses and hypericum berries. Love this!

I love cymbidium orchids mixed into bouquets. I think they lend a nice bit of texture and elegance. Here they are with peach roses.

Hydranga, always a favorite!

White asiatic lilies and peonies for the maid...
Add a gardenia (or two) and roses to the lilies and it makes for a beautiful bridal bouquet.

What a treat we received last week when a caterer came into the shop and set up lunch for us. She handed Nino a card and it was a lovely thank you lunch sent from a bride!! Chicken Parmesan, pasta, antipasta salad, drinks, break, and all the fixings. Such a wonderful surprise!!

Sometimes being a florist means going above and beyond, and that is just what Nino did for this bride.

Oh yea, forgot to mention the pretty cake - double or triple chocolate, I can't remember, but it was good!!

We had a lovely wedding this weekend... and now it doesn't stop until the fall! Be sure to check back often for updates on the weddings we create.

Our first April wedding featured blue, yellow and white, cheery colors for spring. The bridal bouquet was full of roses, tulips, stephanotis, freesia and a touch of blue delphinium. Quite impressive!

The maids' bouquets were complimentary in white, blue and yellow. They featured white roses, blue delphinium, yellow tulips and solidago - very smartly tied with navy ribbon.

The bride and groom had a gorgeous spring day - sunshine galore!

Nino and his family took a mini vacation in March to Florida. While there, they got a private tour of Disney's wedding planning studio. Aptly called Franck's for the infamous wedding planner in the movie Father of the Bride, the spacious studio was beautiful. Tables were set with a variety of themes so brides and grooms could choose floral centerpieces, table decor and cakes. Here are a couple of beautiful examples.

Wow! What a wedding weekend for Backyard Garden!
We had the fine privilege of providing the floral design for Meghan Thomas of Meghan Thomas Photography. Her color scheme was pink, black and silver and she basically gave us free reign on the design of the bouquets - as long as it was funky and creative.

The ceremony and reception were at The Lodge - always a beautiful venue for a wedding. So many details and fun designs throughout...

We can't wait to see the photos from the event... at night... with all the emotion and people there... perhaps we'll be able to post them in the near future.

It is hard to believe that another year has come and gone.

First, a hearty thank you to all of our loyal customers, new customers, brides and grooms and everyone who helped to make 2009 a wonderful year. We enjoyed creating beautiful floral arrangements for you whether it was for a birthday, your wedding, or just anyday!

Whew! We are breathing again... the end of the year is always a busy one. The Holiday season comes so quickly in retail - and is busy, busy, busy throughout the month. We are enjoying a bit of a slow down now... but it wont stay slow for long. Valentines Day is right around the corner!

Nino and David are currently in Atlanta for the gift show. Twice a year they go to either NYC or Atlanta to buy new and exciting product for the store. Stop in the store in a few weeks to see what goodies we bought... we'll try to get some pictures up of the product as it arrives.

Check back in a bit for some Valentines preview info -- I'm reading the latest issue of Florists' Review magazine to see what the hot trends are this year.

It is always interesting and unique when a bride pulls in a bit of family heritage into the wedding and even the bouquet. Tartan plaid ribbon was used in embellishing both the bride and the maid of honor's bouquet.

Happy 1st of September! Hard to believe how quickly this summer is going. We have a definite fall feel to our weather here in Syracuse - crisp cool nights and some of our days have been cool lately, too.

September is a lovely month for weddings and we certainly have our work cut out for us this month! We congratulate our brides and grooms and are looking forward to being a part of your day.

Bouquets with texture

Another great week of bouquets! I just love bouquets that are full of texture... the two bridal bouquets this week are full of it!
Friday's wedding consisted of roses, hydrangea, freesia and green pittosporum which made for a very traditional and lovely presentation.
The other bouquet (bridal) was full of roses, peonies, sweetpeas and freesia... beautiful and quite fragrant! The maids will carry a bouquet of Katherine roses and Yelloween lilies, which are another heavily scented bloom.

I love the bright and cheery colors of this wedding. I would love to be a guest at this wedding to be surrounded by such fun flowers and colors. The bride chose a centerpiece that included limes. We need to find out who the photographer was so maybe he/she would share a picture or two from the reception site. Until then, enjoy this collage of the bridesmaid (green spider mums/senensis), flower girl (matsomoto aster pomander) and the lovely bridal with 30, yes 30 Attache roses.

Nino posed with the local florists who were kind enough to allow him to use their shop to store and design the wedding flowers. The bride was thrilled with her gorgeous, lush orchid bouquet as well as the floating pool arrangements.

Nino and David returned this week from a lovely wedding in the Bahamas. After months and months of planning, Tessa and Glenn tied the knot at a beautiful church, St. Vincents, on the island and celebrated at the Grand Bahama Yacht Club.
Orchids were everywhere!! There were orchid altar arrangements, floating orchid arrangements in the pool, orchids for the bride and the maids --- everywhere! Gorgeous. Stay tuned for more pictures! Coming up - the bridal bouquet, the bridesmaids and some fun pictures of David and Nino at the flower shop where the designing took place.
